Did You Know?

  • Glastonbury is recognized throughout the state for its highly successful land acquisition and preservation program pursuant to the Reserve for Land Acquisition and Preservation. The Reserve was originally established in the late 1980's to provide a mechanism for the funding and purchase of land meeting a variety of criteria. Since 1988, over 1,500 acres have been purchased by the Town through the Reserve, including lands with recreational, historic, environmental, agricultural, natural resource and other benefits. Glastonbury is generally considered a model for successful municipal efforts to acquire and preserve open space and natural resources.
  • A previous edition of "What's Happening in Glastonbury" highlighted successful work to refinance long-term bonds issued in prior years to achieve future savings in debt service costs. Previous refinancing has saved in excess of $2.6 million in prospective annual costs. Bonds originally issued in 2006 and 2007 were refinanced over the past several weeks to achieve combined savings in excess of $700,000. Combined future savings from refinancing now totals approximately $3.4 million.
